New research shows the state of the nation’s keyboards could be having a detrimental effect on the health of users. However, this is not the usual research into repetitive strain injury but rather the dangers of germs and infections thriving in keyboards. An effective solution needs to be found, UK based Devlin Electronics believe they have the answer.
The “CleanKey” Keyboard is a unique product developed to allow effective and easy routine cleaning. Designed for healthcare applications it is now thought the keyboard could see wide spread interest as part of a fight against keyboard grime.

The keyboard is constructed of elastomer rubber making it completely waterproof. It can be wiped down at your desk or completely submersed for a thorough clean. The name “CleanKey” derives from the patented Clean Key, when pressed it isolates the keyboard from the PC removing the need to unplug it. Without the inconvenience of disconnecting the keyboard it is easier to promote better cleaning practises.

In the development of the keyboard Devlin was always aware that the enhancements made for cleaning must not compromise standard functionality. This has certainly been achieved with many users reporting that the retention of touch typing ability and the familiar “feel” of raised keys make it preferable to flat panel style keyboards.

Devlin Electronics Managing Director commented “many people wouldn’t give a moments thought to whether their keyboard is clean or not. I believe this research will cause many people to think twice about the state of their keyboard. We hope people will start making a more conscious effort to clean their workspace. The “CleanKey” Keyboard is an innovative product which isn’t a chore to use or clean.”
