Leading mobile TV chip maker Siano Mobile Silicon (www.siano-ms.com) announced today that its recently launched product, a software protocol stack for China Mobile’s Mobile Broadcasting Business Management System (MBBMS), has successfully passed China Mobile Research Institute – CMRI tests and is now fully certified. MBBMS handles billing, user management and conditional access for the CMMB mobile TV service through China Mobile. This confirms Siano's position as the market leader in providing Mobile TV chip technology to China
The new product certification was done with tight collaboration with Brighter, a professional developer and manufacturer of Mobile phones with 3G and Smart phones in China, that specializes in design and manufacture of advanced TD-SCDMA terminals. “The collaboration with Siano was one of the most professional, quick and productive that we ever experienced, “commented Mr. Wu Zun Xiang, CEO of Brighter. “We are thrilled to be able to offer our new line of TD-SCDMA/CMMB phones with a fully functional, certified, MBBMS stack”.

CMMB is the mobile digital TV standard deployed in China. Today, it covers 330 cities in China – providing coverage to most of the urban population of the country. The service is offered via China’s Broadcast Corporation (CBC) and China Mobile, the world largest mobile operator. The number of CMMB users so far is estimated to be 10 million.

Siano is the largest supplier of CMMB receiver chips, serving a wide range of domestic as well as international handset makers and design houses such as Samsung, Motorola, ZTE, BYD, Compal, Dell, Garmin, Mitac, Huawei, OnTim, and many others.

Following the successful collaboration with Brighter, Siano’s MBBMS stack is now available for the most common operating systems: Linux, Android, and Windows Mobile. Versions for other operating systems are available upon demand, with only minimal engineering efforts required. Siano’s MBBMS stack can be easily ported to any real time operating system. A few TD-SCDMA platform providers have already started using the stack on their platforms.

Wang Wei, Siano’s Vice President for Asia Business Development commented: “We were thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Brighter. The combination of their advanced yet cost-optimized TD-phones, together with Siano’s MBBMS offering, will make a compelling offer to the TD/CMMB market. As a genuine market leader, and a company that sees itself as a real contributor to the CMMB market, we see the utmost importance in bringing unparalleled value to our customers by offering receivers combined with a full-blown MBBMS stack. For many TD-SCDMA device makers, the MBBMS protocol stack has been a bottleneck in their development plans and timetables, and Siano is now removing this hurdle for them.”
