TDC is targeting video surveillance and other multimedia-based embedded systems applications with a new socket modem that allows tri-band UMTS/HSDPA as well as GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity to be added to a new or legacy system with an absolute minimum of development time.

The Multi-Tech Systems SocketModem HSDPA from TDC integrates the controller, RF transceiver, antenna interface and SIM card holder in one compact, type-approved communications device. The only additional hardware required to complete the design is a suitable antenna from TDC, a SIM card and a power feed. Offered with a choice of serial or USB2.0 interfaces, the modem can be driven with standard AT commands. The serial DTE channel is capable of transfer speeds of up to 920kbps and can be interfaced directly to a UART or microcontroller.

Based on Multi-Tech’s universal socket architecture, the modems can be readily interchanged with Multi-Tech solutions offering Ethernet, Wi-Fi, PSTN or other cellular standards – making it easy to offer a range of communications options without significant hardware or software development investment. The modems are FCC, PTCRB and R&TTE certified.
