EM-MLC version of the X-500 Series 2.5” SATA SSD

Swissbithas announced the introduction of endurance managed – multi-level cell versions of its successful X-500 Series 2.5” Industrial SATA solid-state drive. Compared to standard MLC SSDs, Swissbit’s EM-MLC SSDs have three to ten times greater endurance while maintaining consistent data retention of up to five years, in line with the JEDEC standard.

The X-500 EM-MLC manages a data rate (sequential read performance) of up to 240MB/sec on SATA II and an impressive 14,800 IOPS with 4KB random accesses. Therefore, the X-500 EM-MLC is ideally suited for cost-sensitive industrial applications that nevertheless have tough requirements, e.g. a broader temperature range between -40°C and +85°C, high shock and vibration resistance, transparent diagnostic functions and advanced erase methods.

Maximum MLC endurance

As a result of specifically tested and selected MLC flash raw materials, the Swissbit EM-MLC SSD is an interesting solution positioned between SLC and standard MLC. It provides excellent value for money (cost per gigabyte) and offers very high data reliability with the industry-leading power fail protection feature, the S.M.A.R.T. protocol, lifetime monitoring tools and SDK/API, as well as the highly efficient BCH-ECC. Additionally, it includes features such as NCQ, TRIM, ATA Security Set and Enhanced Secure Erase via software, as well as hardware management. Internal temperature sensors continuously monitor the system, allowing the implementation of additional early warning systems. The SATA connector with latch and especially reinforced component cables makes the EM-MLC X-500 suitable for applications that demand high vibration and impact resistance.

EM-MLC X-500 SSDs are available in various densities. As with all Swissbit memory solutions, long-term availability and a fixed BOM are guaranteed for the X-500 EM-MLC SSD.
