Maxim has introduced the MAX13234E-MAX13237E family of RS-232 transceivers. Providing upgraded functionality to Maxim's legacy MAX3224E-MAX3227E RS-232 transceivers, these devices provide the industry's highest data rates (up to 3Mbps), low-voltage logic-level translation, low 1microamp supply current through the AutoShutdown Plus feature, and enhanced ESD protection.
All transmitter outputs and receiver inputs are protected to ±15kV Air-Gap Discharge and ±8kV Contact Discharge per IEC 1000-4-2, as well as ±15kV using the Human Body Model. The MAX13234E-MAX13237E thus enable high-speed data transmission while eliminating the need for external logic-level translation. This family of RS-232 transceivers is ideal for telematics, GPS devices, POS (point-of-sale) equipment, portable electronics, and industrial applications.

The MAX13234E/MAX13235E feature two receivers and two transmitters and are available in a space-saving TQFN/TSSOP package. The MAX13236E/MAX13237E have a single receiver and transmitter and are packaged in a compact TQFN. The MAX13235E/MAX1237E guarantee data rates up to 3Mbps, while the MAX13234E/MAX13236E support 250kbps operation. All devices operate from a 3V to 5.5V supply voltage and are fully specified over the -40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius extended temperature range. Prices start at $2.70 for the MAX13234E/MAX13235E, and $1.99 for the MAX13236E/MAX13237E (1000-up, FOB USA).
