Lantiq has integrated support for the ULE Alliance’s HAN FUN (Home Area Network FUNctionality) protocol into its software powering the xRX 200/300 Gateway SoC families, advancing it's strategy to make the broadband gateway the central node for smart home networks. IoT devices are supported by the integration of the HAN FUN protocol, which allows gateways based on Lantiq chipsets to act as a home automation hub.

Using DECT ULE wireless network technology, the HAN FUN application layer protocol enables device and application developers to manage the operation of home automation systems. Operating on frequency bands which are not subject to interference from other in-home wireless networks, the wireless network technology provides long-reach reliable and secure connectivity across typical home environments. Allowing HAN nodes to operate on battery-power for time periods measured in years, the DECT ULE technology features a low power operation. Based on broad support across the smart home device and networking value chain, the wireless technology enables device interoperability. Hundreds of millions of DECT phones have been shipped by an extensive ecosystem of hardware and device suppliers, demonstrating the DECT ULE wireless network technology’s scalability.

“There is a tremendous opportunity for service providers to create a new source of value and customer loyalty by building support for home automation into the broadband gateway,” said Wolfgang John, Director Product Marketing for DECT, Lantiq. “With HAN FUN running on the gateway, the platform provider now can combine unsurpassed triple-play broadband functionality with a home automation hub. This powerful combination is a key step in defining the smart home of the near future.”

At the Broadband World Forum, Lantiq will be available to discuss it’s DECT ULE solutions. The event takes place on 21-23 October 2014 at RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre, Amsterdam. The company will be at booths C10 and D12.
