Systems and equipment have reduced in size over the years, and more of them are being fitted to a given platform. Until now, this miniaturisation process has not been matched by a miniaturisation in the cabling and harnessing, which have become major problems of weight, bulk, flexibility and routing; by offering much more than traditional mil spec cables, the systems and vehicles now being designed are much lighter, more compact and more easily interconnected. This allows the vehicle to carry much more capability, e.g. more situational awareness and HUMS (Health and Usage Monitoring Systems) sensors.
