The new HDMI Micro female connector features all the technical characteristics offered by conventional HDMI receptacles but is another 50 percent smaller than the “Mini” HDMI connector. Its dimensions are 8.90 mm x 7.50 mm x 2.97 mm (W x D x H). Four solder tails – two SMT and two through-hole contacts – ensure an ideal hold on the board during insertion and removal. The 19 connecting contacts made of copper alloy with gold-tin plating are specified for at least 5,000 mating cycles. With Kapton film on the top and with reel packaging, it is suitable for automatic placement. Development of this female connector is currently being finalized. Production ramp-up is scheduled for April 2010.
HDMI 1.4 will be able to support the sYCC601, Adobe RGB and Adobe YCC601 color spaces: As a result, it makes it possible to accurately reproduce colors from digital photographs in a way that is true to the original when a digital camera is connected via HDMI. Additional new features for Version 1.4 include an Ethernet channel for network capabilities, an audio return channel (ARC), 3D image representation over HDMI and an HDTV resolution that, at 4096 x 2160 pixels, is now four times higher.
