Therefore, we’ll also be rummaging around in the loft and delving into the darker recesses of the wardrobe in search of those summer essentials, long-forgotten during the winter. However, an alternative to turning the house upside down whilst looking for these summer accessories has been suggested by RS Components.
The creation of a new infographic – ‘3D Print Your Summer Essentials’ sees the company look-up some of the best summer themed 3D printed ideas from website Thingiverse. The chosen ideas range from a traditional bucket and spade to a unique banana lounger. A spokesperson for RS commented: “We wanted to share unique, fun and practical creations. Instructions on how to create each item is listed on the Thingiverse website via our infographic.”
3D printers take data from a computer generated model and translate that into a real, solid form. The technology is already making an enormous impact in prototype development by giving the designer the ability to go from an idea to a physical object within hours. In contrast, creating prototypes using conventional methods can take weeks and is often costly.
This all adds up to a faster turnaround on projects, months shaved off the design cycle and a whole lot of money saved in the process. The potential applications for 3D printing cross a huge range of business sectors from interior set modelling, architectural design and dentistry to rapid product prototyping, scientific and structural research – and not forgetting a bucket and spade!
