Power
Practical guide is available for download
Offered as a practical guide for engineers, power-supply designers and students, the DC/DC book of knowledge is a 234-page publication offered by Recom Power.
Low inductance capacitors operate in high temperatures
Capacitors from SCR Industries, part of the Cefem Industries Group, include a low series resistance and low inductance capacitor, capable of operating at up to 175°C.
DC/DC converter addresses always-on automotive needs
Linear has announced the LT8495, a current mode, fixed frequency SEPIC/boost DC/DC converter with an internal 2A, 70V switch. Quiescent current of only 9µA makes it suitable for always-on automotive systems, and its integrated Power-On Reset (POR) and watchdog timer offer enhanced system reliability required in automotive and industrial applications.
Multilayer power inductors suit mobile NFC applications
TDK Corporation has expanded its portfolio of multilayer power inductors with the MLJ1608 high-performance series. Complementing the existing MLF1608 series of multilayer power inductors for signal lines, the MLJ1608 series was designed for use in near field communications and power line applications, especially in smartphones, tablets and NFC modules.
0.6mm supercapacitors address IoT space constraints
CAP-XX has launched its Thinline series of 0.6mm thick single-cell supercapacitors, starting at less than $1 in large volumes. Thinline was developed to address the size, weight and cost challenges of designing thin, sometimes disposable electronic devices for the IoT. Examples include wearables, portables and connected electronics such as smart homes, smart buildings and electronic shelf labels.
Medical adaptors include four-way interchangeable AC plug
Mean Well has unveiled its green wall-mounted medical adaptor with interchangeable AC plug, the 18W GEM18I series. This adaptor is designed with a four-way interchangeable AC plug, fitting European, USA, U.K. and Australian sockets. The design is approved for IEC60601-1 3rd, EN60601-1-11, and ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1-11 household medical regulations.
Power management chipset optimises dead time
Texas Instruments has introduced the first PMIC chipset with intelligent digital control and a unique body-diode sensing feature to optimise secondary-side synchronous rectification in next-gen AC/DC and isolated DC/DC power supplies. The UCD3138A digital controller and UCD7138 low-side gate driver improve system efficiency and halve synchronous rectification MOSFET voltage stress compared to other digital-power solutions.
Robust IGBT claims best-in-class CMTI
Designed to improve electric motor energy efficiency in industrial motor control, the ADuM4135 is an isolated IGBT gate driver from Analog Devices. It incorporates iCoupler digital isolator technology and galvanic isolation in a single package. It has, according to the company, the industry’s best combination of CMTI (Common-Mode Transient Immunity) at 100kV/µs and propagation delay of 50ns (typical).
Transducers isolate nominal measurements
LEM has extended its range of high-accuracy current transducers, announcing the series of IT xx5 transducers for non-intrusive and isolated nominal measurements of DC, AC and pulsed currents from 60 to 600A. The new range includes four models: IT 65-S, IT 205-S, IT 405-S and IT 605-S.
Surface mount GaN transistor reduces power consumption
Claimed to be the industry’s smallest enhancement mode 600V GaN transistor, is offered in the X-GaN package by Panasonic.
