1,000A contactor for high current DC switching

Expanding their line-up of advanced switching solutions, GIGAVAC has introduced the GX110 SPST-NO (Single Pole Single Throw – Normally Open) contactor. Rated for continuous duty up to 1,000A, the contactor is suited for applications where both high voltages and high currents need to be controlled with the certainty of galvanic isolation.

Capable of switching high current loads at voltages to 800V dc, the GX110 can carry up to 5,000A for short durations. By utilising GIGAVAC’s cut throat coil technology, low coil hold power is attainable without the noise issues associated with PWM coils. The contactor includes an optional SPST auxiliary contact driven off the main armature to provide true indication of the main contact position. An integrated Deutsch connector offers an easy interface for the coil and the optional auxiliary contacts. Additionally it can be mounted in any position.

Operating over a temperature range from 55 to 90°C (up to 200°C with special coils), the contactor can be used in nearly any harsh environment including under water thanks to GIGAVAC’s EPIC hermetic seal. Therefore the GX110 is designed to meet UL1604 for Class I & II, Div 2 and Class III for use in hazardous locations along with IP67 for temporary water immersion for 30 minutes, SAE J1171 external ignition protection, and ISO8846 for protection against ignition around flammable gasses.

"Several customers have asked for a one thousand amp contactor and we now offer it as standard product. It provides a compact solution to high current application requirements and, with the EPIC seal, the GX110 can be mounted virtually anywhere in a system. Plus the GX110 is excellent value for a one thousand amp sealed contactor,” comments Markus Beck, Vice-President of Power Products, GIGAVAC.
