Vishay Intertechnology has released two BiSy (Bidirectional Symmetrical) single-line ESD protection diodes for portable electronics with a low working range of 3.3V in the ultra-compact CLP0603 silicon package. Measuring just 0.6x0.3mm with a very low height of 0.27mm, the VBUS03B1-SD0 and VCUT03E1-SD0 offer ultra-low capacitance and leakage current for the protection of high-speed data lines and antennas against transient voltage signals.

With their low working range of 3.3V and low load capacitance, typically down to 0.29pF for the VBUS03B1-SD0 and under 14pF for the VCUT03E1-SD0, the devices can be used for protection in low-voltage and power-saving applications such as high-speed data ports like HDMI, USB 3.1 and Thunderbolt in smartphones, mobile phones, digital cameras, MP3 players and portable gaming systems. Due to the short leads and small package size of the CLP0603 package, the diodes' line inductance is very low, allowing fast transients such as an ESD strike to be clamped with minimal over- or undershoots.

The devices feature a low maximum leakage current of under 0.1μA at the working voltage of 3.3V, a breakdown voltage of 8.5V typical at 1mA and a maximum clamping voltage of 18V at 2A. The VBUS03B1-SD0 and VCUT03E1-SD0 provide transient protection for one data line as per IEC 61000 4 2 at ±16 and ±30kV (air and contact discharge), respectively. The devices support reflow soldering to +260°C for 10s per JEDEC STD-020. The protection diodes are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free and Vishay Green.

Samples and production quantities of the VBUS03B1-SD0 and VCUT03E1-SD0 are available now, with lead times of eight weeks for large orders.
