INWED 2025 webinar announcement: making space for every voice

2nd June 2025

To mark International Women in Engineering Day (INWED), join Electronic Specifier’s Paige West and Sheryl Miles as they host a panel in a live, one-hour discussion exploring how language shapes gendered perceptions in the workplace.

The webinar ‘#TogetherWeEngineer: making space for every voice’, will spotlight the subtle ways that everyday communication can reinforce inequality – and share constructive ways to challenge bias, foster allyship, and lead more inclusively.

The conversation will focus on how the same traits and behaviours are often perceived differently depending on gender – for example, does ‘assertive’ look different to ‘bossy’ depending on who speaks? The panel, of whom have had both positive and negative experiences, will examine what language bias looks like in real terms and provide attendees with actionable takeaways for encouraging fairer, more inclusive conversations. Attendees will also have the opportunity to submit questions to the panel ahead of the webinar.

During the webinar, we will take a look at:

  • Is language really universal?
  • What does ‘assertive’ look like?
  • How does perception shift across gender?
  • How can we call out bias constructively and support inclusive communication?

Attendees will leave with:

  • Greater awareness of unconscious language bias
  • Real-world insights from experienced tech professionals
  • Strategies for inclusive leadership and communication
  • A sense of allyship and shared responsibility
