Rutronik is introducing Infineon's PSOC C3 MCUs in the Entry, Main, And Performance product lines for optimised solutions in a wide range of applications. The Arm Cortex-M33-based microcontrollers feature real-time control for motor and energy conversion solutions and a scalable portfolio in terms of functions, packages, pinouts, memory, and performance.

Their differentiating control peripherals are wide-bandgap-compatible. The controllers are a turnkey solution for complete development cycles with higher performance and system efficiency, greater security, and a shorter time to market for applications. They are ideal for use in market segments such as smart homes, servers, telecommunications, and industry.

The devices operate at up to 180MHz (entry-level series: up to 100MHz). They combine the advantages of DSPs (digital signal processors) and FPUs (floating point units), enhancing computational performance and precision.

In addition, the devices include advanced real-time peripherals, including:

  • High-performance, programmable analog subsystem
  • Five comparators with built-in 10-bit DAC and slope generator <10ns
  • Advanced timers with high resolution capability
  • Up to six serial communication blocks (SCB)
  • Two CAN FDs, one with 8Mbps

Depending on application requirements, the components support one active and five low-power modes for managing and reducing energy consumption. They are PSA L2-certified with crypto accelerator, TrustZone, key management, and secure storage for various security options, and feature high autonomous and analog sampling rates with full control flexibility and digital IPs.

The controllers have up to 50GPIOs (general purpose input/output) (or up to 39GPIOs in the entry series) with programmable control modes, strengths, and rise rates, and up to 28 pins (up to 22 pins in the entry series) supporting Smart I/O programmable logic, and up to 16 dedicated analog pins.

The MCUs are available in VQFN-48, E-LQFP-48, VQFN-64, E-LQFP-64, or E-LQFP-80 packages. They are designed for a supply voltage range of 1.71V to 3.6V and operate reliably at ambient temperatures from -40°C to 105°C.

Further benefits:

  • 12-bit, 12Msps SAR ADC (entry series: 6Msps SAR ADC) with parallel idle sampling of up to 16 analog channels
  • 16 x 16-bit and 4 x 32-bit TCPWM (timer/counter pulse width modulator) with 80ps HighRes option
  • Improved routing flexibility with a combinatorial trigger multiplexing unit
  • 256KB read-while-write flash with ECC support
  • Low-Power operating modes down to 300nA: Sleep, Deep Sleep (three modes) and Hibernate
  • Security: PSA L2-certified; configurable flash partitioning and protection
  • Safety test libraries according to Class B and SIL 2 are available

Potential applications:

  • Motor control
  • Power tools
  • Household appliances
  • Industrial drives
  • Light electric vehicles
  • Robotics
  • Drones
  • Digital power control in switched-mode power supplies (SMPS) and PFC applications for
  • LED lighting
  • EV chargers
  • Solar inverters
  • Servers
  • PC power supplies
  • Motor control and power conversion applications based on wide-bandgap technologies (e.g. SiC and GaN)
