Rohde & Schwarz will present its latest developments in spectrum monitoring and broadcast distribution at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (March 2-5th).

Two new products will be featured with an illustration of practical use cases for regulatory bodies. In addition to these previews, company experts will be available to discuss the operational characteristics and efficiency of 5G Broadcast for terrestrial networks.

A new portable monitoring receiver designed for routine and ad-hoc civil radio monitoring and field RF diagnostics will be available in an exclusive preview. The receiver delivers wide instantaneous bandwidth and class leading sensitivity in a handheld format to detect and identify interfering signals, support continuous spectrum monitoring and enable radio signal verification.

Designed for use in the last mile – e.g. at major events or sensitive sites – the receiver analyses signals in complex wideband RF environments and enables rapid spectrum clearance and continuous monitoring.

The pre-launch also features a compact direction-finding antenna, which covers a broad frequency range, reducing the number of antennas required for complex measurement tasks and simplifying direction-finding on the move.

Integrated active/passive switching capability allows for measurements in environments with strong unwanted signals, and a patented VHF design enhances reception range and sensitivity. Together these capabilities enable continuous capture of weak emissions during routine inspections and interference investigations in complex RF environments.

Rohde & Schwarz will also demonstrate how these upcoming solutions integrate into established testing and compliance workflows as radio environments become more heterogeneous.

“Our focus is offering superior measurement accuracy and verifiable, certified records while simplifying the operation,” says Massimiliano Mannelli, Senior Director of Product Management for Network and Spectrum Monitoring at Rohde & Schwarz. “Our highly mobile, rapidly deployable solutions are built for straightforward integration into existing procedures, reduce effort in the field and cut resolution times required by regulatory authorities, technical laboratories, and accredited test houses.”

A further highlight will be a demonstration of 5G Broadcast technology. This distribution method allows for delivery of multimodal content, including live video and text alerts, to large populations without utilising per-user mobile network capacity. For oversight bodies, this technology offers a potential standard for centralised warning systems and crisis communications. It also supports regulatory requirements for transparency, traceability, and integrity checks for information distribution.
