Spirent Communications has won Test & Measurement World magazine’s 2011 Best in Test award for the Network and fiber-optic testers category. The award, based on votes from the magazine’s readers and editors, recognizes the Spirent TestCenter Mobile Backhaul solution for helping companies save costs and bring products/services to the market faster.
The Best in Test award honors important and innovative new products and services in the electronics test and measurement industry. This recognition by users of test equipment underscores Spirent’s commitment to developing and delivering solution that address the critical and changing needs of the communications testing community.

“The 2011 Best in Test finalists include 72 impressive products in 16 competitive categories,” said Rick Nelson, editorial director of Test & Measurement World Magazine. “In the Network and fiber-optic testers category, readers and editors voted Spirent TestCenter for Mobile Backhaul as the Best in Test winner, in part due to its ability to improve test cycle times and reduce the overall cost of test while ensuring optimal QoE.”

Spirent TestCenter Mobile Backhaul simplifies testing by emulating cell sites, access, aggregation, edge networks, and end-user traffic, all from a single port. Designed to support the IP/Ethernet enabled mobile backhaul, this comprehensive solution improves test cycle times and reduces the overall cost of testing. Testing with Spirent helps to ensure that service quality in the Ethernet backhaul goes beyond best effort.

“Today’s 3G services are already taxing wireless networks, and emerging 4G (LTE) networks are only adding to that pressure,” said Ross Cassan, senior product marketing manager at Spirent. “Interestingly, the desire to be connected wirelessly has resulted in increased performance requirements for wired networks which places new operational demands on mobile backhaul capabilities. Spirent is honored that Test & Measurement World magazine and its readers have recognized our efforts in delivering a solution that better prepares both service providers and equipment makers for service turn-up, maintenance and troubleshooting of these advanced systems.”

As service providers migrate from TDM to an Ethernet-based backhaul, they benefit from reduced costs and improved packet transport efficiencies. But this transition requires testing of TDM like features such as timing and OAM since Ethernet does not natively support timing and management. With its accurate testing of IEEE 1588 and SyncE timing protocols, MPLS-TP and OAM protocols, Spirent TestCenter helps reduce the risk of dropped mobile calls and enables delivery of video and data applications in conformance with SLAs. Additionally, by simulating real-world packet and physical-layer impairments, Spirent eliminates the need for expensive test beds and helps manufacturers eliminate the risk of introducing untested features into the market. The comprehensive protocol, scale and impairment testing capabilities of Spirent’s Mobile Backhaul solution helps service providers ensure highest Quality of Experience to end customers.
