Schaffner has increased its expertise in the increasingly important Power Quality market by the acquisition of Betec-Engineering. Betec-Engineering specialises in the development and distribution of the market leading range of Bluewave active harmonic filters and currently have a turnover of approximately EUR 2 million.
Harmonic filters make an important contribution to ensuring smooth and efficient operation of modern power networks, for example in building infrastructure, in data centres, production plants and transport systems. In certain cases, harmonic filters can also contribute to a considerable reduction in electricity costs. Betec-Engineering's Bluewave(TM) active harmonic filters will ideally complement the Schaffner ECOsine(TM) family of passive harmonic filters, which was launched in 2008. As part of the integration, the Schaffner Group will commence volume production of active harmonic filters in its plant in Shanghai starting in March 2009.

Paul Dixon, managing Director of Schaffner Ltd. Comments, “Adding the leading edge technology Bluewave active power quality filters to our existing ECOsine products means Schaffner now has a state-of-the-art product offering for all power quality applications. We now offer one of the widest ranges of harmonic filters available and expect to generate significant additional sales in this sustainable and growing market.”
