Working closely with NMI (the UK’s trade association for Electronic Systems) and some of the country’s largest car manufacturers and supply chain partners, Plextek is lending its experience to a new consortium - The Automotive Electronic Systems Innovation Network (AESIN) – which aims to help increase the UK’s global competitiveness by stimulating change in the automotive supply chain that enables OEMs to more readily embrace new innovations.
Having driven multiple new innovations into the automotive market and delivered over 5.5m units, Plextek is well placed as a core member and an independent partner to the consortium’s other significant industry players, including Jaguar Land Rover, Lotus, Nissan, McLaren Electronic Systems, Freescale, Infineon, Renesas and Visteon.

Paul Jarvie, Network Manager, Automotive at NMI commented, ‘We are delighted to welcome Plextek to participate in the AESIN consortium in its role as an independent consultant, while also bringing to the table its extensive design and manufacturing experience in this market.”

The UK is bursting with innovative companies in the segment, creating the new technologies needed for next generation vehicles. However, vehicle manufacturers have traditionally not been well exposed to these and technology providers can play a key part in resolving this. As an independent consultant and manufacturer, Plextek is actively engaged with silicon vendors and Tier 1&2s to create effective channels to the OEMs for previously unexploited innovations.

Sharing ideas and experiences gained from successful engagements in other industries, Dr Paul Martin, Head of Systems at Plextek, presented at the AESIN launch during NMI’s Automotive Electronic Systems conference, held at the University of Warwick, 26 September.

At the event, Derek Boyd, CEO of NMI added, “The UK has a strong base of vehicle, motor-sport and electronic-engineering capability and this new network provides a specialist home for electronic systems innovation and supply-chain development. There’s already momentum with key players and we’d like to invite more partners to come and join the network.”

Well respected as an innovator in its own right, Plextek is already the development partner of choice for 300+ major global organisations, government bodies and ambitious start-up companies. Now as a partner to the technology providers as well, it is helping SME sized innovators to see the needs and influence solutions for the big car manufacturers.
