Monitor 24 Automotive Switches with a Single Microcontroller

Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX13362, a 24-channel switch-contact monitor for automotive switches. This device enables a single microcontroller to monitor up to 24 mechanical switches distributed throughout the automobile, thus eliminating the expense of multiple remote microcontrollers. The MAX13362 protects low-voltage circuitry from high voltages (27V, max) and reverse-battery conditions, making it well suited for monitoring remote mechanical switches that are exposed to adverse conditions. The device also offers three modes of operation (continuous, polling, and shutdown) to optimize power consumption. The MAX13362 is ideal for automotive body controllers and door modules.

An SPI interface provides multiple programming options. Users can configure polling time and polling active time to conserve power between monitoring events. They can also program wetting current, interrupt capability, and switch configuration (i.e., battery connected or ground connected). The programmable wetting current (0mA to 15mA) is applied to any closed switch to clean switch contacts that are exposed to adverse conditions.

The MAX13362 is fully specified over the -40 degrees Celsius to +125 degrees Celsius automotive temperature range. It is AEC-Q100 automotive qualified, and is available in a 6.0mm x 6.0mm, 40-pin TQFN package. Pricing starts at $2.26 (1000-up, FOB USA). Evaluation kits are available upon request.
