Ian Phillips receives microelectronics industry award

Professor Ian Phillips has been recognised by the National Microelectronics Institute (NMI) for his major contribution to the UK semiconductor industry. The Contribution to Industry Award, sponsored by BERR, is one of eight annual Ivation Awards made by the NMI.

Presenting the award to Phillips, ARM’s Principal Staff Engineer, NMI CEO Derek Boyd said, “Ian has demonstrated all the qualities this award calls for.  He has been instrumental in flying the flag for UK microelectronics design, for championing the need for greater government recognition, closer engagement with Europe and a renewed focus on engineering skills.”

He continued, “In many ways, the NMI thinks of this particular award as an ‘unsung heroes’ award, for those people who make great personal efforts over a sustained period of time to support the industry as a whole – for little personal gain.  Ian is genuinely passionate about the industry and has always done his utmost to support it.”
