The Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) has confirmed FIME’s status as an Authorised Test Laboratory (ATL) for its MirrorLink Specification device certification programme. Car manufacturers, smartphone makers and infotainment system providers can now work with FIME to confirm that their products meet the CCC’s requirements before launch, ensuring greater interoperability between devices.

“There are already millions of MirrorLink-enabled handsets and vehicles on the roads and the certification program is in place to support, enable and foster even greater interoperability and stability in connected cars,” comments Alan Ewing, President and Executive Director, CCC. “ATLs like FIME play an essential role in the adoption of MirrorLink by offering independent third-party testing services to manufacturers and integrators. This promotes trust with the ecosystem and ensures everything operates as it should before consumers take the technology out on the road.”

The CCC develops global standards for in-car smartphone connectivity. The CCC’s membership includes some of the world’s leading automotive, mobile communications and consumer electronics industry companies. The CCC MirrorLink standard allows users to access their phones using the same controls as for accessing the car radio, climate control and navigation system. Certification testing in authorised third party test laboratories is required for manufacturers wanting to bring MirrorLink products to market.

“MirrorLink is a proven concept and we’re excited about applying our expertise with contactless mobile devices to in-car smartphone integration systems,” adds Myung-Hwa Calais, Head of New Growth Opportunities, FIME. “Technologies are converging quickly in the automotive sector, just as they did for smartphones. You can already connect smartphones via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB. Soon we will see the integration of embedded SIM cards, emergency calling functionality and car payments.”

FIME engages with standards bodies and innovative emerging technologies to develop technical services and solutions. This enables its customers to launch next gen products quickly and cost effectively.
