European semiconductor sales in the second quarter 2019

European semiconductor sales in the second quarter 2019 reached $9.800bn, according to the European Semiconductor Industry Association (ESIA) reported based on the latest WSTS figures. These results represent a 4.7% decline from the previous quarter. European sales of sensors and microprocessor units showed strong growth in June compared to the previous month (6.8 and 2.4% respectively) and grew faster than in the other regions worldwide.

Overall, European sales in June amounted to $3.267bn, down 2.6% in June compared to the previous month. All growth figures represent a three-month rolling average. On a worldwide basis, semiconductor sales in June reached $32.717bn, down 0.9% versus the previous month. Looking at sales of application-specific chips, sales of devices designed for automotive infotainment and computer & peripherals increased steadily in June over the previous month.

In June, the exchange affected the European sales picture when comparing market growth in Euros and in Dollars – albeit to a lesser extent than in previous months. Measured in Euro, semiconductor sales were €2.905bn in June 2019, down 2.6% versus the previous month and a decline of 5.5% versus the same month a year ago.

Total second quarter sales amounted to €9.992bn, down 2.5% versus the previous quarter.
