Elan Digital Systems, the UK company which is a leader in custom design products for PCMCIA, PCI and USB, has created a team of dedicated engineers to provide both off the shelf SDIO interface products as well as specialist custom design for bespoke solutions. The company has a decade of experience in interface technology and is creating arguably the first dedicated SDIO custom design facility in the world today, breaking new ground in supporting innovative and developing interface technology.
/> This is because Elan Digital believes that SDIO (which includes the commonly used SD memory slot technology) will soon become the de-facto method of providing high speed I/O interface to UMPC and UMIDs as well as Smartphones/PDA and standard PCs. SDIO offers all the key advantages of very small physical size ( Micro SD format), inherently robust construction, low power, high speed and, most importantly, low cost.

WiMAX modems based on SDIO technology are already available and Elan Digital has created a chipset family to provide the bridge to PCIe, MIPI, GP bus and USB.

A unique feature of Elan Digital’s chip design activity is the in-house manufacture of end user hardware. In other words, Elan uses its chips to manufacture end equipment. As a result this provides the engineering team with valuable insight into product strengths and weaknesses, enabling them to improve quality & reliability of the products they design.
