CSR Reaches Automotive Technology Milestone – Delivers 10 Millionth Connectivity Chipsets to Alps Electric for Telematics and Infotainment Modules

CSR plc today announced the delivery of the 10 millionth CSR Bluetooth automotive chipset to Alps Electric, a leading global manufacturer of high-quality electronic devices. CSR is the first supplier in automotive history to achieve this milestone with a Bluetooth module partner. CSR semiconductors and software are delivered to Alps, and then incorporated into Alps’ connectivity modules as a fully embedded Bluetooth solution for automotive infotainment and telematics applications such as hands-free calling, wireless audio streaming, and wireless data transfers. CSR’s offering to the automotive market encompasses Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and more, and is the most complete product portfolio of its kind for the automotive industry.

“Our work with CSR spans most of the history of automotive wireless connectivity, from the first BlueCore module through the very latest products,” said Hideo Izumi, senior manager, Engineering Department, Alps Electric. “The partnership with CSR has helped Alps Electric deliver the highest level of quality on the market.”

In a business relationship dating to 1999, Alps turns to CSR for connectivity chipsets, successfully building modules based on each of the eight generations of CSR Bluetooth products. The companies’ work together continues to yield innovative new capabilities and possibilities for the automotive navigation and infotainment industries now also extending into Wi-Fi and GPS applications. In addition, CSR’s automotive chipsets meet the requirements of AEC-Q100, the global testing standard for automotive integrated circuits meeting the requirements of the most discerning automotive customers.

“This is a wonderful milestone demonstrating CSR’s dedication to the development of cutting-edge automotive connectivity technology and our market leadership,” said Fabien Cure, CSR’s senior product manager for Automotive Connectivity. “Alps is a key, long-term partner for CSR’s Automotive Business Area, and has been instrumental in helping CSR expand the use of in-vehicle wireless connectivity.”
