CETECOM wins Wi-Fi Passpoint test certification

The Wi-Fi Alliance has authorised CETECOM to perform Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Passpoint (Release 2) certification testing. CETECOM’s Silicon Valley facility now handles 17 certification programs – more than any other lab in the United States.

“Wi-Fi Passpoint (Release 2) transforms the public Wi-Fi experience”, explained Maan Ghanma, CEO of CETECOM North America. “For the first time, enterprise-grade WPA2 security technologies are now accessible to Wi-Fi public hotspots. Roaming with Wi-Fi is now just as automatic and secure as roaming with cellular networks.”

Passpoint (Release 2), also known as Hotspot 2.0 (HS2), allows subscribers to join a Wi-Fi subscriber service securely whenever their device enters a supported hotspot. For today’s mobile workforce with smartphones, laptops, wearables and IoT devices, Passpoint is the foundation for Wi-Fi roaming in both enterprise and public venues. New capabilities in Release 2 include online sign-up with account provisioning, secure registration, and operator policy control.
