Wind River, a world leader in embedded and mobile software, today announced that Arkoon Network Security has standardized on Wind River Linux to develop Arkoon's FAST 360 family of network security devices. Arkoon's FAST 360 range of network appliances is designed for the enterprise and run on Wind River Linux optimized for Cavium OCTEON and Intel Xeon processors.
Explosive broadband data traffic growth is creating new pressures on equipment companies to constantly improve network performance and increase security capabilities, said Mike Langlois, general manager for networking and telecommunications at Wind River. By providing optimized software solutions for the latest hardware platforms, Wind River is helping Arkoon deliver differentiated network security appliances that can address the security challenges persistent in today’s faster, intelligent networks.

The FAST 360 product family is designed to meet the diverse needs of Arkoon's embedded and enterprise customers looking for reliability, flexibility, security and, most of all, speed, said Laurent Hausermann, director of products and services at Arkoon Network Security. Wind River's networking expertise and world-class support were key reasons for us to select Wind River Linux.

Given the diversity of Arkoon's range of FAST 360 products, Arkoon required a fully optimized, highly customizable platform to meet varying product development demands and architecture requirements. Arkoon relied on Wind River to deliver the open source innovation and customization available from Linux, coupled with the benefits of a stable, carrier grade commercial product.

Arkoon's FAST 360 NPA is based on Cavium Networks OCTEON 30xx/31xx/38xx architecture and integrates a full range of security technologies including firewall, VPN, antivirus, anti-spam, web filtering and network services such as NAT, VLAN and dynamic routing. Quality of service (QoS) features include bandwidth management and link load balancing. The product also includes advanced VoIP security capabilities.

The FAST 360 XLARGE A2200 and A5200 are based on the Intel Xeon processor family and offer and represent a new generation of unified threat management (UTM) appliances. The series includes modular connectivity and a range of hardware options such as four-port Gigabit Ethernet copper adapter, four-port small form factor pluggable (SFP) Gigabit Ethernet adapter, extension slots for an extra Ethernet adapter, and RAID disk, providing a high degree of adaptability and upgradeability.
