Densitron Displays has set up a waste electrical electronic equipment (WEEE) service agreement with Weeeco, an award winning company incorporated to lessen the financial impact of WEEE on business while ensuring environmental sustainability and corporate responsibility. The UK's WEEE legislation, which came into force on 2nd January 2007, aims to reduce the environmental impact of WEEE, and to encourage its separate collection, and subsequent treatment, re-use, recovery, recycling and environmentally sound disposal.
It states that all organisations will be classed as B2B (business to business) end users of nonhousehold WEEE and will therefore be responsible for the environmentally sound disposal of all electrical waste. This includes everything from computers, phones, faxes to lighting cables, calculators and even batteries. Failure to comply with the legislation could result in heavy fines.

'Disposing of existing equipment in a responsible way is such a huge responsibility', says Clive Robson of Densitron. 'It requires time and effort that not all businesses can afford to give'.

'Weeeco remove the headache and dispose of their electrical waste for them - everyone is looking for a long-term easy solution to fulfil their WEEE responsibilities'.

'A lack of knowledge and understanding surrounding UK WEEE legislation means that organisations can often feel confused about dealing with their responsibilities and what choices they have', he adds.

Densitron was invited to be a Weeeco Warrior for its unique electronics industry experience and commitment to providing innovative solutions for their clients. Beverly Ann Eckerman, Managing Director of Weeeco comments: 'It is so important for industry leaders such as Densitron to assist in educating the electronics industry of the cost effective options for WEEE compliance'.

In collaboration with Weeeco, Densitron Displays will provide a number of WEEE training and compliance services. These include WEEE compliant registration for producers who are legally bound to join a producer compliance scheme. Besides, organisations can sign up for the B2B end users WEEE compliance scheme which allows them to enjoy a proactive service where Weeeco will establish and maintain their policies on WEEE, and be responsible for their fulfilment of the UK WEEE legislation and the hazardous waste regulations (HWR).

WEEE training seminars will take delegates step by step through the planned UK WEEE legislation and its impact on manufacturers, procurement officers and businesses which produce nonhousehold WEEE for disposal.

Densitron has also set up a WEEE collection point at its warehouse on the Team Valley Industrial Estate, where SMEs can drop off any item of WEEE from a single electronic item to arranging collection of larger loads direct from Team Valley Business Premises.
