UK robot pioneers win Queen’s Award in enterprise for innovation
The Shadow Robot Company has been honoured with a prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation in recognition for its world leading advances in robotics and outstanding commercial performance. The company is best known for its Dexterous Hand, the most advanced of its kind in the world, reproducing, as closely as possible, the kinematics and dexterity of a human hand.
Improvements in productivity with pick and place machines
In order to improve productivity and maintain high levels of production, Newbury Electronics has received a boost this month with the installation of two new pick and place machines. This new equipment means that Newbury Electronics will have a complement of ten Yamaha I-pulse M20 and S20 SMD pick and place machines.
What is the future for drones?
Drones are an effective commercial tool with applications in many sectors, especially, construction. There are many benefits using drones, which range from on-site safety to a level of project monitoring which wasn’t previously possible. The drones market is set to be worth billions over the coming years, the infographic below provides an insight into the future of drones.
LVDTs offer feedback for monitoring flight parameters of UAVs
Unmanned drones require a variety of sensors to monitor different critical measurements to control flight and maintain aircraft stability. Miniature Linear Position Sensors from NewTek Sensor Solutions provide reliable position feedback for monitoring the fin/rudder position and rotor angle of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) with quick response times so UAVs can make adjustments to accurately control flight.
New technology vital to the future protection of our forests
“World leaders must look towards drone technology as a solution, not a problem, when attempting to solve the decline of the world’s forests as governments are forced to act over climate change before it is too late.” This announcement, from Robert Garbett, Founder and Chief Executive of Drone Major Group, the global Drone and Counter Drone consultancy, comes on the 100th anniversary of the Forestry Commission which has...

Toshiba Machine partner, TM Robotics, welcomed three new partners to its distributor network at Automate 2019. Production Components Inc (PCI), BlueBay Automation and Global Manufacturing Incorporated (GMI) officially signed distributor contracts at the show, which was held on 8th-11th April, 2019 at McCormick Place, Chicago.
Funding boost for EPSRC UK-RAS network
The 4th annual UK Robotics Week (#UKRW19) returns for a celebration of robotics and autonomous systems innovation in the last week of June, boosted by the award of a further three-year grant by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to the core organisers, the EPSRC UK-RAS Network.
Enabling the next-generation of industrial robots
Control position, torque and speed of the synchronised axis within your robot, CNC, and servo drive control module systems in harsh industrial environments with hard real time communication and high EMC immunity.
Industrial ecosystems vie to lead Industry 4.0
A recent research study estimates global sales of robotic end of arm tools (EOAT) to surpass $2,000m in 2019, up from $1,900.3m in 2018. This growth in sales can be attributed to the ever-evolving demand of industrial ecosystems for high productivity via industrial robotics.
Business models and engineering strategies set to impact robotics
Innovations in robotics was the theme that the recent Hardware Pioneers event was exclusively devoted to. With these regular gatherings of technology’s movers and shakers now starting to be more spread out - staged in cities across Europe and North America too - the motivation for me to attend one of the London events was markedly intensified. As always, the venue was full and the atmosphere filled with energy. By: Mark Patrick, Mouse...
