C&K Components has designed a new series of high-performance, IP67-sealed SMT key switches for harsh environment applications. Designated the K12S Series, the robust key switches are available in LED backlighting with a wide selection of colors, and detect versions. Featuring excellent tactile feedback, the highly reliable K12S Series provides a life cycle of more than 1,000,000 actuations, making it ideal for demanding conditions often found in automotive, motorcycle, off-road transportation, industrial and medical applications.
The K12S Series IP67-sealed key switches feature abuse-proof contacts, 100N overload resistance and self-cleaning golden contacts. The key switches offer an actuation force range of 1.5N to 15N, with a total travel of 1.5mm. The K12S Series switches also maintain a wide range of contact arrangements (NO/NC and SPST/DPST). Customization options are available, including detect versions.

“The K12S Series is the first switch on the market to combine surface mount technology, IP67-sealing with backlighting,” said Regis Clement, product manager at C&K Components. “The K12S Series IP67-sealed key switches are the ideal choice for a variety of harsh-environment applications that demand ruggedness and a long operating life in a SMT compliant package.”

The K12S Series IP67-sealed key switches feature a maximum power rating of 3 WDC and a minimum/maximum voltage of 2V – 30VDC, with a minimum/maximum current rating of 10uA – 100mA. The operating temperature ranges from -40°C to +85°C. The K12S Series device is also available in an IP40-rated package for less demanding applications.

The RoHS-compliant and halogen-free K12S Series’ advanced design offers customers the flexibility to tailor force values, actuation travel options and provide double pole single throw (DPST) custom solutions to meet specific application requirements.
