It's estimated that 20% of adults are suffering from pain globally and consumers’ choice for at-home treated pain relief has expanded from analgesics to a combination of devices that were once found only in doctors’ or physical therapists’ offices. According to Kline’s recently published Pain Management Devices: Global Market Analysis and Opportunities report series, the consumer market for these devices has grown at a rat...
Transponder coils for automotive applications are compact
Series of EPCOS z-axis transponder coils for passive entry, passive start (PEPS) car access systems have been presented by TDK Corporation. With their dimensions of just 7.7x7.4x2.65mm the components are extremely compact and feature a very low insertion height. The B82451L*E402 series comprises seven transponder coils covering an inductance range from 1.0-10.0mH.
LCD drivers enhance healthcare monitoring devices
A range of low-power 16-bit microcontrollers (MCUs) has been announced by Renesas Electronics. The RL78/L1A Group microcontrollers have LCD drivers that are ideal for battery-powered sensing devices used in healthcare applications such as blood glucose monitors, lactate analysers, cholesterol analysers, and other devices equipped with biochemical sensors.
Sample Kit features medical, industrial and IoT applications
Showcasing its broad range of connectors’ well suited for use in consumer, medical, industrial, and IoT applications in which small size and high-reliability performance are mission critical, AVX Corporation has released a new sample kit.
Energy efficient biomedical sensor hub integrated as a SoC
A sensor hub integrated as a SoC intended for a broad range of wearable health devices and applications has been announced by imec and Holst Centre (established by imec and TNO).
Partnership to develop ICs for wireless power transfer
STMicroelectronics announced their design collaboration to develop semiconductor solutions for magnetic-resonance-based wireless power transfer. The goal is to "cut the last cord," bringing convenience to the powering and charging of consumer electronics, IoT devices, as well as medical, industrial, and automotive applications.
Taking a look at the European defence market
Increasing their defence spend for the first time in a decade will be seen this year by European NATO states. Concerns about Russia, the migrant crisis and the terrorist threat have led to many European governments focusing on their military budget. Hon Carwyn Jones AM, First Minister of Wales, provides a facility for the manufacture of custom medical devices, as well as education and training for the life sciences community.
Preventing free radicals to help ageing
Researchers have found out how a particularly dangerous type of free radicals is formed, and it may lead to a better understanding of ageing. Free radicals destroy our cells, all human organisms are attacked by them and over times they contribute to us ageing. Every time we breathe we bring crucial oxygen into the body.
Water vapour setting oxides aflutter
Exhibiting behaviour that researchers had never anticipated: The material gives off oxygen and begins oscillating, almost resembling a living, breathing organism, is exposing one type of an oxide structure called perovskite to both water vapour and streams of electrons.
