Anders Electronics has announced the addition of two new display platforms to its popular UMR 5 Series product line. Recognizing that in today’s device market, the display experience is crucial to the quality of the entire User-Machine Relationship (UMR), Anders’ new 3.5 QVGA and 4.3in WQVGA TFT display platforms help make integration of colour displays with touchscreen and additional embedded functionality more accessible and cost-effective for manufacturers.
The display components in Anders’ newest UMR 5 Series Intelligent Displays are amorphous silicon TFTs with LED backlight, produced by tier-1 manufacturers and featuring guaranteed long lifetime availability, mainstream form factors, high-end optical characteristics, and optional touchscreen functionality. Pre-integrated with an optimised, multi-functional embedded system, Anders’ Intelligent Displays let manufacturers avoid the hassle of selecting display controllers, designing backlight and power supply circuits, sourcing specialised connectors, setting software registry values, or facing any of the multitude of challenges associated with integrating a next generation display.

The UMR 5 Series embedded system features PXA270 Intel XScale® architecture, ARM5TE ISA with WMMX extension, options of 312 MHz or 520 MHz clock speeds, 64 or 128 MB SDRAM, 128 or 512 MB NAND FLASH, I²C, SPI, GPIO, serial ports, Ethernet ports, a USB port, and more.

Designed with device end user experience in mind, the UMR 5 Series delivers the rapid and cost-effective creation and integration of the iPhone™-like user interfaces that device manufacturers need to differentiate their offerings. Anders’ Intelligent Displays support the design and animation functionality found in cutting edge consumer devices thanks to Anders’ unique UMR IDS (Interface Development Suite), which includes a desktop interface builder and on-board runtime vector graphics engine.

“Our clients need solutions for quick, easy and cost effective development of iPhone™-like user interfaces for their next generation products,” said Rob Anders, CEO of Anders Electronics. “These new display platforms, like our other UMR products, enable our customers to concentrate on their core domain expertise – producing devices with world-class functionality – while we shoulder the burden of defining, developing, and integrating the user interface,” he concluded.

UMR 5 Series development kits are available now, and include a 60-day free evaluation of Ander’s UMR IDS (Interface Development Suite).
