To accelerate colour TFT-LCD integration and product functionality upgrades such as the addition of wireless, Anders Electronics has extended its UMR series of intelligent colour display platforms by introducing the UMR-X10-70. The new platform will enable developers to shorten time to market whilst saving cost and delivering an enhanced user-machine relationship (UMR).
The UMR-X10-70 provides a high-quality, high resolution 7-inch WVGA TFT-LCD with touch, pre-integrated with a PXA270 processor, pre-written drivers, industry-standard interfaces and extra features including 16-bit stereo audio and on-board power supplies. A sunlight readable display option is also available.

This latest addition to Anders’ intelligent display range joins the existing UMR-X10-35, which features the same embedded PC platform with a transflective 3.5-inch VGA LTPS TFT display.

Both display platforms will easily ‘plug’ into developers’ application hardware, as a ready-to-use, highly optimised embedded display interface on which to run a dedicated Graphical User Interface (GUI) and thus bring the product to life for the end user.

Through adopting a UMR display platform, developers can avoid the common integration challenges that they must usually solve independently and can free up resources to focus on their core domain expertise and specific application development. The end result is a shorter time to market, a more cost effective solution in terms of both development costs and unit pricing and a product which is easy and enjoyable to use, offering a compelling display experience.

Multimedia functions such as high-resolution graphics or digital audio can be offloaded from the existing hardware, to boost overall system performance or liberate host-processor cycles for added functionality. With 800x480 pixels resolution, the screen has plenty of design space to support an elaborate GUI , which is fast becoming one of the most important elements for differentiating industrial, medical or consumer applications from their competition.

The processing engine - available with 312MHz or 520MHz - combines the power and efficiency of the XScale processor architecture with 64Mbyte or 128Mbyte integrated RAM, as well as a 128Mbyte or 512Mbyte solid-state Flash disk. By also providing all necessary display drivers and pre-installed Microsoft Windows CE 5.0 “Core” operating system the UMR-X10-70 enables rapid software development using readily available tools.

The UMR-X10-70 offers industry-standard communication interfaces, including 10/100 Ethernet, USB host and slave ports, an RS-232 UART and I²C making it easy and flexible to connect and communicate with. There are also eight general-purpose I/Os. These allow engineers to quickly integrate the UMR-X10-70 into virtually any system requiring upgraded user-interface performance, with minimal integration effort. A socket for a Secure Digital (SD) storage card is also provided. In addition, there is also an integrated audio amplifier delivering a stereo output at 2.1W per channel via the UMR-X10-70 main I/O connector.
