Embedded modules support worldwide LTE-A networks

Sierra Wireless has introduced four AirPrime embedded modules, based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon X7 LTE Modem and the first to support LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) networks worldwide. LTE-A is the latest generation of 4G LTE network standards, aimed at improving network capacity, throughput, data speed and operational cost-efficiency.

It has been announced that Sierra Wireless has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Maingate for $90m in cash. The transaction is expected to close in February 2015. Providing managed M2M connectivity and information management services to more than 500 customers across Europe, Maingate reaches a subscriber base of more than 500,000 connected devices.

Audi Works With Sierra Wireless To Build And Test In-Vehicle LTE Infotainment System

Sierra Wireless today announced that Audi is using Sierra Wireless AirPrime embedded wireless modules to help develop and test an LTE-connected infotainment system. Still in the development and testing stage, the system has been showcased at several industry events this year, including the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in January, and CeBIT in Hanover, Germany, in March. Drive tests were started in late 2011 and are ongoing.

Sierra Wireless unveils the world’s thinnest 4G LTE embedded module

Sierra Wireless today introduced the world’s first thin form factor embedded wireless module for 4G LTE networks. The AirPrime EM7700 embedded wireless module measures only a nominal 2.5 millimeters thick and is designed for use in ultraportable notebooks, tablets, and other devices where thinness is a critical design constraint. Shipments are expected to begin in the second quarter of this year.
