GPS revolutionized the world with its ability to provide accurate and cost-effective positioning, navigation and timing (PNT), yet its rapid adoption has caused critical infrastructure sectors to be overly dependent upon the satellite-based system. The signals transmitted from GPS and other Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) constellations can be a threat vector, which, if disrupted, could harm key critical infrastructure sectors including telecommunications, energy, transportation, emergency services and data centers. The susceptibilities of the GPS signal to attack, whether intentional or not, are viewed similarly as a cybersecurity threat. In recent months, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of reported GPS incidents, causing critical infrastructure providers to evaluate the security, reliability and resiliency of their GPS-based PNT dependency.

Microsemi has announced it will be expanding its Silicon Carbide (SiC) MOSFET and SiC diode product portfolios early next quarter, including samples of its next-gen 1,200V, 25 and 80Ω SiC MOSFET devices; next-gen 700V, 50A Schottky Barrier Diode (SBD) and corresponding die. These SiC solutions, along with other recently announced devices in the SiC SBD/MOSFET product families, will be demonstrated 5th-7th June in hall 6, booth 318 at PCIM Europe 2018, held at the Exhibition Centre in Nuremberg, Germany.

Microsemi has announced its first cost-optimised, low power, mid-range PolarFire Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) device is now production-qualified. With 300K Logic Elements (LEs), the second largest device in the family targets a variety of applications in the communications, defence, industrial and aviation markets. The company also announced full Libero SoC Design Suite support for PolarFire devices, giving designers the ability to design in any member of the family.

Designation paves the way for QML class V qualification
Microsemi has announced its RTG4 high-speed signal processing radiation-tolerant FPGAs have achieved Qualified Manufacturers List (QML) Class Q qualification by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). The qualification, which validates the quality and reliability of RTG4 FPGAs as well as the company's qualification and manufacturing screening processes, enables easier design of Microsemi's flash technology into space applications due to the streamlined process of working with QML-qualified products.

Cesium atomic clock portfolio compliant with ITU standards
Microsemi has announced completion of certification of its portfolio of cesium clocks to be compliant with the new G.811.1 recommendation (known as enhanced Primary Reference Clocks, or ePRC) from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for timing characteristics of enhanced primary reference clocks. This new standard raises the bar for frequency accuracy by an order of magnitude from 1x10E-11 to 1x10E-12.

Semiconductor solution provider, Microsemi, has announced that its Libero system-on-chip (SoC) development software version 11.5 Service Pack (SP)2, offering a comprehensive suite of FPGA design tools, has achieved functional safety certification from TÜV Rheinland according to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 61508-2, Annex F. With Microsemi now offering a Functional Safety Data Package, engineers designing products to conform to IEC 61508:2010 can utilise the company’s certified Libero tool chain to accelerate certification time.
