Exploring opportunities in robotics and artificial intelligence
The innovation group, Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) has announced details of an industrial showcase event focused on robotics and artificial intelligence (RAI). The event takes place in Manchester on the 12th March 2019. Up to 500 delegates from industry, as well as technology providers and academia are expected to attend.
Electric refuse trucks on trial in Greenwich
A 26 tonne electric refuse vehicle is on trial in Greenwich after the Royal Borough of Greenwich secured funding from Innovate UK as part of a consortium. Smart implants to counter post-operative infection
Innovate UK is providing funding to support the next stage in development of a bio-active implant, Smart Spacer, which will counter post-operative infection following knee surgery. The programme has the potential to substantially reduce the £300m that these complications cost the NHS.
UK in the driving seat of driverless cars
A UK initiative designed to study data critical to the efficient operation of driverless cars has secured funding from Innovate UK that will put the country at the forefront of connected and autonomous vehicles. The Atlas initiative, a consortium of UK businesses, will use the funding to research and develop communication between vehicles and roadside infrastructure.
London's first driverless cars will be around soon
The first driverless cars to be tested on the streets of London will resemble the electric passenger shuttles currently in use at Heathrow Airport. The group behind the project is currently adapting the pods for use on the roads. Greenwich is one of four places in the UK where driverless pods and public reaction to them are being tested.
