Artesyn Embedded Technologies has announced the Centellis Security Edition platform, developed in collaboration with Clavister and based on open hardware, which enables carriers to dramatically lower the cost of developing, deploying and running virtual and cloud-based security gateways when compared with rack mount servers. On a cost/performance basis, carriers can save up to 65% of capital and 67% of operating expenditure by using less servers and combining multiple virtual applications in a single system.

The Centellis SE platform is designed to protect telecomms networks from malicious threats, while providing secure access to subscriber services. It combines multiple security applications for LTE, packet core and mobile data networks on a single platform to provide carriers and integrators with a unified carrier-grade solution. The solution can be deployed either on a dedicated open, standards-based hardware blade or combined with other virtual network functions (VNFs) in a single system or network node.

“It is critical that carrier networks are secured against attack and interception,” said Todd Wynia, Vice President of Communications Products, Artesyn Embedded Technologies. “Operators can now do this by provisioning virtualised network security zones quickly, flexibly and simply using our Centellis Security Edition. With a minimal software footprint and extremely low resource requirements, it is an optimal solution for all types of virtual and cloud-based network security solutions. We are continuing to develop security gateway frameworks across multiple platforms and for even higher density, to enable operators to deploy a common security solution from the edge to the core of their networks.”

The Centellis SE platform offers scalable firewall routing throughput from 100Gbps to 1.2Tbps and scalable IPsec throughput from 50 to 600Gbps. It is designed to protect high speed networks by enabling applications such as the LTE security gateway (LTE/SEG), evolved packet data gateway (ePDG) and perimeter firewall. Load-balanced switching, enabled by Artesyn’s FlowPilot software, ensures optimal use of the available resources and makes virtual application deployment even more efficient.
