Eaton has launched a range of full metal consumer units that meet the requirements of the recent amendments to the 17th Edition wiring regulations.  Manufactured with an all steel base, cover and door, the latest consumer units are designed to contain any internal fire that develops as a result of poor installation or faulty installed components, as far as is reasonably practicable.

This addition to Eaton’s Memera range is fully compliant to BS EN 61439-3, making it suitable for domestic premises, in line with the new regulation.

The sturdy and aesthetically appealing IP30 enclosure is easy to install and wire with multiple cable entry knockouts. Access is provided from the top, bottom and rear faces via multiple large apertures to allow flexible cable entry into the enclosure.

The door hinge is top-mounted to avoid the unit being inadvertently left open and is fitted with a door catch that can be replaced with a locking device for added security. The latest units are finished with a tough white polyester powder coat paint that is compliant with industry standards for low smoke density, flame propagation and toxic fume emission.

Internally, the Eaton Memera full metal consumer units feature distinct wiring zones for an easier and neater installation with ample wiring space.  Dual RCCB units come with three neutral busbars as standard for high integrity configuration, and the use of Eaton’s compact RCBO’s ensures that wiring space is not compromised.

The 100A busbars are supplied loose and are 'snapable' for easy on-site configuration. Clip on covers then finish the installation and provide complete shrouding of live busbars. All units are supplied with full user instructions and a comprehensive labelling kit.

Initially, this extension to Eaton’s Memera range is available in a surface mount configuration with a single DIN rail. Discrete flush mounting variants will also be available, along with a dual rail version for homes with additional home automation and control requirements.

Eaton also offers FBA versions that can be pre-configured at the plant for quicker and easier installation. These units can include multiple command and control devices including transformers, timers, contactors and relays as well as energy metering and can be configured with all the necessary internal wiring as required.

“Eaton’s latest Memera full metal consumer units fully meet the requirements of BS7671 Amendment 3:2015 regulation 421.1.201, which has an implementation date of January 2016,” said Phil Williams, Product Marketing Manager, Eaton. “The compact size, internal features and smooth, curved, full face door means the units are not only easy to install and configure on site but they look good too, which is important for residential installations.”
