Microchip Technology in advanced talks to buy Microsemi

According to The Wall Street Journal, Microchip Technology is in advanced talks to buy Microsemi. Microchip Technology is a leading provider of microcontroller, mixed-signal, analogue and Flash-IP solutions with a current market value of over $20bn, and Microsemi, a provider of semiconductor and system solutions for aerospace and defence, communications, data centre and industrial markets has a market valuation of $7.5bn.

This news has emerged whilst the trade show Embedded World 2018, the leading exhibition for embedded technologies, in Nuremberg is underway. For the last couple of years, there has been a surge in the semiconductor and embedded market as the Internet of Things (IoT), Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Automated Vehicles (AV) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are preoccupying technology news over consumer technology products.

More and more engineers are popping up on the scene with technology startups, from IoT smart home products and consumer wearable technology to advanced robotics. Companies are focussing on providing the market with development kits to inspire and enable creators to design connected products as the market goes through this semiconductor resurgence.
