BotherMe&U began as an accident as the company wanted to test the functions for another product in the pipeline, as Oliver Wessling, Director of NOW Microsystems explained: “We released BotherU&Me in 2012 primarily just to test out some fun ideas I had for functions, such as the EyeCheckr and the BugMe function that keeps popping on the users phone when they need to be reminded of something, but we are still seeing a strong established user base for it all this time later.”
Wessling puts the app’s success down to scams that target WhatsApp users and big data concerns. “Our users seem to like that this app offers privacy and anonymity, which are rare things in the online world. WhatsApp are still handing all their user data to its parent company, Facebook. The EU’s data protection group says the company is not complaining with EU data protection law.”
