Torex Semiconductor XC9702 series step-down DC/DC converter

Torex Semiconductor has launched a new product, step-down DC/DC converter – XC9702 series.

The XC9702 Series is a step-down DC/DC converter that achieves the world’s smallest class mounting area (9.4×7.4mm = 69.56mm2) for 60V high-voltage operation by accommodating small peripheral components (Figure 1).

Figure 1. XC9702 Mounting Board

With an input voltage range of 4.5V to 60V, output voltage range of 2.5V to 12V, and output current of 300mA, it supports an operating ambient temperature of up to 125℃. It features a MODE terminal that allows optional setting of PWM control and PWM/PFM automatic switching control, enabling noise reduction and lower power consumption by selecting different control modes. It is effective for addressing heat dissipation issues of medium to high voltage LDOs in industrial equipment by efficiently outputting stable 3.3V or 5V with low ripple from unstable 24V power sources, such as in FA (Factory Automation) equipment.

Furthermore, with its 60V operation, it prevents destruction even if an input voltage overshoot occurs. It also includes protection functions such as current limiting, overvoltage protection, Lx short-circuit protection, and thermal shutdown, ensuring safe operation even in abnormal conditions. Additionally, it allows power sequence adjustment with external soft start adjustment function and power good function.

Despite its high voltage tolerance, its low power consumption contributes to the increasingly stringent requirements for standby power consumption reduction in recent years, as well as to the efficiency improvement and downsizing of various industrial equipment, along with reducing the mounting area (Figure 2).

The package lineup includes HSOP-8N (6.2×5.2×1.7mm) with lead terminals and USP-10B (2.6×2.9×0.6mm) which is a small surface mount type, accommodating various applications.
