Sensing platform encompasses multiple parameters Sensing platform encompasses multiple parameters

The SEN6x sensing platform from Sensirion is designed for compactness and performance. It integrates multiple sensors within an unprecedented form factor, enabling the measurement of up to nine key environmental parameters: PM1, PM2.5, PM4, PM10, Relative Humidity (RH), Temperature (T), VOC Index, NOx Index, CO₂, and Formaldehyde (HCHO).

This innovative platform simplifies integration, reduces development complexity, and offers extensive customisation options.

It is in stock at authorised distributor Anglia Components.

By embedding advanced algorithms directly into the module, the SEN6x eliminates the need for external processing and optimisation, allowing manufacturers to focus on their core competencies creating user-friendly applications without the worry of costly and time-consuming optimisations and accelerate time-to-market while reducing total cost of ownership.

The platform adopts a modular architecture, enabling manufacturers to address multiple product tiers with a single design-in. This approach streamlines production and supports tailored solutions for diverse applications – whether the requirement is limited to particulate matter measurements or a comprehensive range of air quality parameters, such as temperature, humidity, volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides, CO₂, or formaldehyde, the SEN6x provides the perfect combination.

At the heart of this sensing platform lies the SPS6x, a miniaturised MEMS-based particulate matter sensor. This component integrates all essential elements – light source, photodetector, signal processing, and algorithm – into a single, space – and cost-efficient package.

Leveraging patented geometric design and advanced MEMS packaging techniques, the SPS6x delivers accurate measurements for PM1, PM2.5, PM4, and PM10, setting a new standard in air quality monitoring.

Particulate matter detection is based on laser light scattering. As airborne particles traverse the integrated laser beam, scattered light is captured by photodetectors. Proprietary algorithms analyse the scattered light to determine particle size distribution and mass concentration. With an integrated ASIC, the SPS6x outputs fully processed values via I²C, eliminating the need for external computation.

Drawing on over 25 years of expertise in flow sensor design, Sensirion has developed Sheath Flow Technology, a patented innovation that prevents dust accumulation on optical components. This ensures exceptional long-term stability and an operational lifetime exceeding 10 years (based on MTTF calculations; actual lifetime may vary by operating conditions). Formaldehyde detection is rated for >6 years.

The SEN6x platform is fully aligned with leading healthy building standards, including RESET, WELL Building Standard, and California Title 24 Energy Efficiency Standards. Integrating the platform simplifies certification processes, ensuring compliance while maintaining cost efficiency and rapid deployment.

To support developers and accelerate adoption, Sensirion offers the SEK-SEN66 Evaluation Kit which jumpstarts the sensor assessment process by offering a straightforward testing approach. This all-in-one air quality sensor module covering RH/T, PM (1, 2.5, 4, 10), VOC and NOx, CO₂ outputs come complete with on-board algorithms and enables fast and flexible testing of the SEN6x platform sensors for various applications.

Designed for seamless integration with the SEK-SensorBridge, the kit allows up to two evaluation boards to connect to a computer via USB, enabling fast and flexible testing. Sensirion complements this with a robust software platform and driver support, making sensor evaluation straightforward and efficient.

The SEN6x platform is suitable for a range of applications, including Transportation monitoring, Food & perishable goods storage, Pharmaceuticals, Breath analysers, Instrumentation equipment and many more.

Anglia is offering customers a free evaluation kit and samples of the SEN6x platform air quality sensors from Sensirion
