Easter themed technology: our top picks Easter themed technology: our top picks

Every year, as the chocolate eggs hit the shelves and the Easter Bunny dusts off his delivery schedule, a parade of gadgets, apps, and gizmos start to appear.

From CNC robots for egg decorating to augmented reality bunnies hopping across your living room, we’ve picked some of our favourite ‘Easter-themed’ technology for you to explore below.

AI-powered egg decorator – EggBot

The EggBot is a compact, easy to use open-source art robot that can draw on spherical or egg-shaped objects.

Designed to draw on all kinds of objects that are hard to print on, EggBot is a fun tool that allows you to impress your friends or family with colourful Easter eggs.

It’s also a great introduction to CNC (computer numerical control) and do-it-yourself robotics. All of the electronics and software are designed to be hackable and repurposable, so you could easily computer control an Etch-a-Sketch or create something totally new.

The EggBot software allows you to control the ‘bot from within Inkscape – a freeware illustration program – on Mac, Windows, or Linux computers. You can draw an image directly, trace a photograph, or import designs from other programs. You can also control the EggBot directly from many other programs that have the ability to send serial commands over a USB port.

Using the optional electro-kistka (hot wax dispenser) accessory, you can even create traditional decorated eggs using the wax-resist and dye method.

Easter egg hunt app – Easter Egg Hunt: Clue Planner

Want to plan a traditional Easter egg hunt but don’t have the time?

Well, this app lets you plan hunts using a built-in riddle library, photo clues, sequential mode, and passcode protection to keep answers hidden from little eyes.

You can take photos of hiding spots, create your own clues, choose from ready-made riddles, and star to plan to perfect path.

Smart egg timer – BrainStream BeepEgg

Boiling eggs is made so much easier with the BrainStream BeepEgg timer.

Instead of relying on traditional cooking timers, BeepEgg monitors temperature changes to ensure soft, medium, or hard-boiled eggs come out just right. Designed to work with any egg size, this smart kitchen gadget plays different tunes to let you know when your eggs are done.

As the eggs reach the right temperature, BeepEgg plays a melody – ‘Oh Susanna’ for soft-boiled, ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’ for medium-boiled, and ‘Hail Hail the Gang’s All Here’ for hard-boiled eggs.

Augmented reality easter bunny – Easter Rabbit AR

This augmented reality app lets you bring the Easter Bunny to life in your very own living room, take photos, and explore a virtual village.

You can even send Easter greetings to friends and family.

STEM activities

Easter is also a great time for children to learn and explore new things, especially in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).

The world is evolving fast, and technology is advancing at an unprecedented rate. As a result, STEM education has become increasingly vital for younger children.

We’ve also explored some exciting STEM activities that you can do with your children, or even your friends and family, during the Easter holiday.
