With the SMDY1 Automotive Series from Vishay, Rutronik is expanding its portfolio to include what are currently the first Y1-certified safety capacitors in SMD packaging. The series is designed for 500 VAC and 1,500 VDC, offers capacities up to 4.7 nF, is AEC-Q200-qualified and PPAP-capable. It thus meets the highest requirements for EMI / RFI filtering in high-voltage systems such as on-board chargers, traction inverters, BMS units, e-compressors, and AC/DC converters.
The Vishay SMDY1 automotive series sets a new industry standard: as the first SMD component with Y1 approval, it enables more compact designs, lower heights and fully automated SMT manufacturing processes – a significant advantage over previous through-hole solutions.
They are Y1 certified according to IEC 60384-14, offering maximum protection against overvoltage and insulation faults in 400 and 800 V system architectures. Two available housing sizes – C-Case with 10 mm and D-Case with 14.5 mm creepage distance – meet the stringent air and creepage distance requirements of modern e-mobility applications.
With moisture resistance class IIB and 85/85/1,000 h tests passed (85 °C, 85 % RH, 1,000 h), the series is ideal for demanding environments. The components are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free and guarantee reliable performance across the entire automotive temperature range.
