Digi, STMicroelectronics, and Anglia are joining forces to present a free webinar which will help developers looking to transition to Linux-based MPUs. Electronic Specifier’s Mick Elliott discussed the agenda with Digi’s Darren Keeley and Anglia’s Andrew Pockson.

The primary aim of the webinar is to guide existing and prospective customers through the transition from using MCUs to MPUs, specifically focusing on moving from RTOS platforms to Linux-based systems. Keeley explained that the motivation behind the event is to attract new customers who are currently working with MCUs and are considering upgrading to MPUs. The session is designed to demystify the process of moving to Linux, especially for those familiar with C++ and embedded systems, and to showcase the collaborative support available from Digi, STMicroelectronics, and Anglia.

Keeley emphasised the importance of support and documentation in facilitating this transition. He noted that while many customers recognise the need to move up the technology chain, there is often reluctance due to the perceived complexity of MPUs and Linux. The webinar aims to address these concerns by demonstrating how accessible and beneficial the move can be, highlighting the robust ecosystem, local support, and resources provided by Digi and ST. Digi’s modules are manufactured in Spain, ensuring local time zone support and competitive pricing. Anglia’s involvement further strengthens the support network for customers in the UK.

Pockson from Anglia Live elaborated on the structure and content of the webinar. The event promises to be a technically rich day, avoiding excessive PowerPoint presentations in favour of engaging, practical content delivered by experienced engineers. Notable presenters include Joe Hill from Digi, who has deep knowledge of the relevant projects, and Chris Young from ST. The agenda includes an overview of the product families, software, and development tools, as well as a walkthrough of the steps, processes, and tools involved in transitioning from MCU to MPU. While the session is not hands-on, it is designed to provide valuable insights and guidance for engineers and developers.

For those interested in attending, Pockson confirmed that Anglia stocks both Digi and STMicroelectronics development tools and devices in the UK. Registration is straightforward, with sign-up links available on the Anglia Live and Digi International websites, prominently featured on their events pages.
