High-voltage power switch boasts 110 V surge protection

The Diodes Inc. AP22950 high-voltage power switch has multiple protection features, including reverse-current protection (RCP), undervoltage lockout (UVLO), overvoltage lockout (OVLO), and overtemperature protection (OTP).

These features provide a robust VBUS switch for USB power delivery (PD) 3.1 standard power range (SPR) ports. There is a built-in TVS diode on the VBUS pin which, with a 22 µF input capacitor, protects both it and the downstream system from surges up to 110 V, as per IEC61000-4-5.

Enhanced RCP blocks reverse currents while ensuring that it can supply the highest voltage to the internal system, enabling support for portable devices that have multiple power inputs. The AP22950 operates from a 2.5 V to 22.5 V VBUS input voltage range with a low 30 mΩ on-resistance, allowing it to support USB PD3.1 SPR VBUS switch applications up to 100 W. The device’s default 23 V overvoltage protection (OVP) threshold can be adjusted from 4.0 V to 23 V by an external resistor on the OVLO pin. The ACKb pin provides a VBUS voltage status indicator. The AP22950 is available in a tiny U-WLB2515-15 package.

Applications cover laptops, computer accessories, smartphones, tablets, portable speakers, USB power sinks, digital cameras and wearable devices.

The AP22950 high-voltage power switch is in stock at authorised distributor DigiKey.
