Renesas MCUs target Edge, IoT applications

Authorised distributor Mouser Electronics is now stocking the RA8P1 Microcontrollers (MCUs) from Renesas Electronics.

These microcontrollers combine Arm Cortex-M85 (CM85) and Cortex-M33 (CM33) central processing unit (CPU) cores with the Arm Ethos-U55 neural network processor (uNPU) to deliver superior CPU and AI performance.

They are optimised for Edge and Internet of Things (IoT) applications, including robotics, security cameras, home appliances, and voice and vision AI.

The Renesas Electronics RA8P1 microcontrollers deliver CPU performance of over 7,300 CoreMarks and AI performance of 256 giga operations per second (GOPS) at 500 MHz. Advanced AI capabilities enable voice AI (KWS, ASR, and NLP), vision AI (object detection, image classification, and face recognition), and real-time analytics (vibration analysis and anomaly detection) on a single chip.

Further features include large memory, multiple external memory interfaces, and an advanced peripheral set optimised for AI applications.

The RA8P1 MCUs are built on the advanced 22nm ultra-low leakage (ULL) process for ultra-high performance with very low power consumption.

The RA8P1 is available as a single-core MCU and dual-core MCU with an embedded Cortex-M33 core.

Delivered in 224 and 289 BGA packages, the RA8P1 MCUs are ideal for a range of uses across markets.

These MCUs provide security for critical applications through an advanced cryptographic security IP, immutable storage, tamper protection, and Arm TrustZone.

The Renesas Electronics EK-RA8P1 Evaluation Kit, also available at Mouser, allows users to easily evaluate the RA8P1 MCU microcontrollers. The kit provides all the features and interface options required to streamline and accelerate the evaluation process.
