The next 20 years will see homes changing more than over the hundred preceding them.

Homes will expand in the activities they enable and support. Most crucially, with real time integration into the wider environment and economy, homes will increasingly respond to the needs of individuals, societies, economies, and the planet.

A key aspect that has so far limited smart home system adoption is one that has held back most new markets – it is a lack of interoperability. Without interoperability, end-users are faced with complexity and risk in selecting and installing new smart home devices.
