MAX2135: Diversity tuner for automotive TV applications provides two tuners in a 7mm x 7mm package

Maxim introduced the MAX2135 diversity tuner for ISDB-T and DVB-T automotive applications. This device integrates two high-performance signal paths that operate from a single fractional-N synthesizer. Packaged in a small, 7mm x 7mm TQFN, the MAX2135 provides a compact solution compared to designs that use two separate tuner ICs.

Additionally, the device features a very low, 3.8dB (typ) UHF noise figure, and it consumes only 330mW when both signal paths are active and 200mW when only one path is active. Uniquely combining a small footprint with low power consumption and low noise, the MAX2135 is ideal for automotive in-dash navigation and entertainment systems.

A versatile device, the MAX2135 receives signals in three bands: VHF-low, VHF-III, and UHF. Furthermore, on-chip lowpass filters accommodate 4, 6, 7, and 8MHz signal bandwidths, making the device ideal for receiving Japan’s ISDB-T and Europe’s DVB-T broadcasts. The output of each signal path is a 4MHz, low-IF signal that interfaces to most demodulator ICs. Additional features that reduce the external BOM price include on-chip tracking filters, a reference oscillator, and LNAs.

The MAX2135 is available in a small, 7mm x 7mm, 56-pin TQFN package, and is fully specified over the -40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius extended temperature range. Pricing starts at $8.00 (1000-up, FOB USA). An evaluation kit is available to speed designs.
