Current through each conductor in the series connection i(t)=λ1(t)L1=λ2(t)L2, the total flux here λ(t)=λ1(t)+λ2(t). It means that effective inductance L=λ(t)i(t)=λ1(t)+λ2(t)λ1(t)L1=L1+L1λ2(t)λ1(t)=L1+L2.

Let’s now consider parallel combination of two inductors depicted below.

As soon as these inductors have equal voltage we can write that λ(t)=L1i1(t)=L2i2(t). At the same time i(t)=i1(t)+i1(t). From here we can obtain 1L=i1(t)+i2(t)L1i1(t)=1L1+1L1i2(t)i1(t)=1L1+1L2=L1L2L1+L2.
