TRaC Global has added an over-the-air test capability to its multi-profile Tracer test harness suite for ZigBee Smart Energy devices. The addition to the Tracer, carried out following customer demand, will allow users to test that their ZSE devices are able to carry out OTA updates, offering customers greater speed and accuracy for their services.

TRaC’s Tracer is a complete protocol toolkit designed to accelerate rapid product development and allow manufacturers of ZSE devices to perform pre-testing of their designs at all stages of development and provide the highest level of confidence that all test criteria have been met prior to the official certification.

The addition of OTA updates to the Tracer was possible following the completion of the new ZSE 1.1.1 standard which now allows ZSE-enabled devices to receive important firmware updates without the intervention or aid of the product vendor.

Paul Russell, director of TRaC commented, “We always planned to add OTA functionality to the Tracer test harness, but it wasn’t possible until the new ZSE 1.1.1 standard was complete. We are delighted to be able to now offer this upgrade to both new and existing customers.

“In addition, we are now accredited to offer testing against the new ZSE 1.1.1 standard following a successful validation event at our Hull, UK test laboratory.”

Paul added: “The firmware and hardware updates we have made enable additional functionality and features to be tested allowing Tracer test harness owners to perform immediate testing of the latest advancements in ZigBee technology.”
